Self-Portrait, 2018

I am a photographer and writer living near Oxford. At the moment I'm studying online courses designed to expand my knowledge of graphic design. I am always looking for ways to increase my experience, and I would love to work with other photographers and in the local arts community. I was recently selected to form part of a group of artists exhibiting their artwork at the Autism Arts Festival at the University of Kent in Canterbury. My photographs were an exploration of news reporting culture in the world today.

I author and maintain my own website mnml.news, a blog on minimalism that I regularly update, with tips on sustainable living, self-care and mindfulness practices.

I recently graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a first-class BA (Hons) in Photography. I also have an HNC in Computer Systems Engineering. In addition to photography, my experience includes working with websites, Photoshop and digital artwork.

One of my most significant influences is artist Sandy Skoglund. Through her creative interpretation of still life compositions, she has taught me to consider the patterns and shapes in a scene. It has made me aware of the importance of planning my own compositions carefully.

The majority of my portfolio from photography through to graphic and website design is in the minimalist style. As Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote, “A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” I hold my work to the same high standard.

I enjoy working in meticulous detail, striving for colour accuracy and using studio lighting sparingly on my photographic subjects to enhance their natural qualities. I firmly believe that “less is more”. Finally, I do not consider any image to be complete until I print it, and nothing beats the satisfaction of holding the finished work in one's hands.
